Mindful Monday

Last week, we learned about beaver dams, lodges and their interesting adaptations.  On Friday, students began to design and build a dam that would stop or slow the flow of water.  Students worked to complete their initial prototype and to test their dam.  After, many groups were able to make changes to their prototype to make it more successful.

We have been continuing with our measurement topic in math; focussing on perimeter.  Students have been working to calculate the perimeter of regular or irregular shapes.  We have also been working on creating shapes to match a given perimeter.  Students have been designing an animal shelter, with enclosures for each of the animals, using a given perimeter.

Events of the Day...

Wacky Wednesday

We had an amazing walk on the pathways around the creek in Evanston.  Students were able to explore and sketch new ecosystems.  Students were excited to discover a beaver den, what appeared to be a beaver dam as well as evidence of beaver activity in the area. We were also lucky enough to see a couple of beavers swimming in the pond.  It was definitely an eventful morning!

Events of the Day...

Mindful Monday

This morning, we began discussing persuasive writing.  We learned that persuasive writing is a way to persuade or convince the reader about a specific topic.  In order to persuade the reader, the writer has to state their opinion and give details to support their opinion.  We will be doing some practice of this in the upcoming days and will be completing a persuasive writing piece on an endangered animal.

Reminders:

  • Bike to School Day tomorrow
  • Home Reading
  • All library books due on Thursday
