Tuning In Tuesday

Reminders:

• Water walk tomorrow (12:45pm-2:00pm)

Tomorrow we will be going on a water walk to celebrate 'International Water Day'.  This walk connects to our learning in that we have been exploring the importance of water in the world.  We are planning to leave the school at 12:45pm and return for 2:00pm.  Students are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear and bring an extra snack for our 5km walk.  Please check out our route through the community on the map below.

Wondering Wednesday

Today, we continued to focus on division.  Students were introduced to a variety of strategies to solve division equations.  These strategies included: making groups, building arrays, using number lines, skip counting, and repeated subtraction.  We will be focusing on these strategies in the upcoming weeks.

We began inline skating this afternoon!

Friendly Friday

Today, we had a presentation from the Royal Tyrrell Museum.  Students were able to interact with the presenter in real-time.  The presentation focussed on some of the geography, geology, and paleontology in Alberta.  After, students did some reflection in their writing journals about the things that they learned and enjoyed, the questions that they had, and how this presentation connected to our 'Rocks and Minerals' topic.

Tuning In Tuesday

Today, we began our exploration of water.  Students brainstormed and recorded the information that they already knew about the topic.  Then, students investigated a variety of water resources, including: fiction/ nonfiction books, pictures, artifacts, videos, and web sites.  We hope to continue our learning around this topic as we approach 'World Water Day'.

Wondering Wednesday

We have been working hard as junior geologists and exploring the content of our 'Museokit' from the Glenbow Museum.  Students have been working in small groups to examine a variety of rock and mineral samples and complete task cards.  Students have been making interesting observations and asking excellent questions.  We will continue with this through the remainder of this week and next.
