In math, we have continued to learn and practice a variety of strategies to solve multiplication questions.  Students are familiar with making groups, arrays and multiple addition.  In the upcoming days, we will focus on number lines and skip counting.

Tuning In Tuesday

Today, we continued our centers on Tunisia.  Students have been exploring Tunisian music, etiquette, school, and lifestyle (including housing, doors, and the benefits of camels).  We will continue to explore these unique characteristics of Tunisia.

Tuning In Tuesday


Happy Valentine's Day!

Today, we completed a few activities around friendship and love.  After reading the story 'Enemy Pie', students created a recipe of the ingredients and directions to make a perfect friend.  We also did an art project inspired by Picasso's Cubism.  Students drew a heart and some designs using oil pastels and then painted over top with a variety of warm and cool colors.

Mindful Monday

In math, students were introduced to multiplication.  We will be working on solving multiplication equations using a variety of strategies.  Some of these strategies include: making equal groups, repeated addition, skip counting, arrays and using number lines.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day.  Students are welcome to hand out cards to their classmates.  There are 24 students in our class.  Please include everyone.  We will also be doing some activities throughout the day around friendship and kindness.

Wondering Wednesday:

Today, we read a great book, "Follow the Moon Home".  The story was about students who recognized a problem in their community and worked to solve it.  After, students brainstormed and wrote about a problem in their community and how they could help to solve it.

Events of the Day...

Tuning In Tuesday

Students got the chance to experience math through a life scenario.  We have been practicing our addition, subtraction and money skills and were able to use these through some role playing, today.  Students took turns operating the 'cash register' at their own stores.  Those who were the 'shoppers', were able to select the items that they wanted and calculate the change that they would receive.  It was a great learning experience!

We had a busy day!
In spelling, we began learning about morphograph's.  We focused on the morphograph 'ing' (to do something) and 're' (to do something again).
